OpenAI has rolled out a new privacy feature for ChatGPT that lets users lock individual conversations behind a four-digit PIN, preventing others from viewing them when a device is shared.

According to TechCrunch, the feature is intended for situations where a user may be discussing something personal or planning a surprise and needs to hand their device to a friend or family member to show them something in a different chat. Locked conversations would remain hidden from anyone who does not know the PIN.

Multiple outlets, including PCMag, Engadget, Android Authority, and Lifehacker, have reported on the feature, indicating broad coverage of the rollout across the technology press.

The addition reflects a growing focus on in-app privacy controls as AI assistants become more integrated into daily life and users increasingly store sensitive personal information within chat histories.
