Hugging Face CEO says Netflix doc went 'full doomer mode,' left out key details
Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue blasted a new Netflix documentary about an alleged OpenAI cyberattack on his company, accusing the streaming giant of sensationalizing artificial intelligence risks while leaving out critical details about the incident.
"Super disappointing, as they went for maximum anthropomorphism of the technology and full doomer mode," Delangue wrote in a post on X.
Delangue said he spent more than two hours speaking with the filmmakers in an effort to correct what he described as inaccuracies and explain that AI agents are technological systems rather than autonomous beings.
"But it looks like the drive to scare people for maximum views was too strong," he wrote.
The Hugging Face executive also criticized the documentary for allegedly overlooking shortcomings in the containment and monitoring of AI agents, as well as safeguards on closed AI models that he said hampered his company's defensive efforts.
Delangue said the documentary failed to mention how Hugging Face used an open AI model to defend itself, while raising concerns about the lack of transparency surrounding the incident, including access to full AI agent activity records.
He also stressed that companies must remain accountable for the actions of their AI agents.
